Platinum Award recognizes product innovation and capability to unlock long-range, attritable drone communications
San Francisco, CA – October 20th, 2026 – Somewear Labs, a leading provider of resilient edge networking technology, was recognized amongst the best by the 2026 Military + Aerospace Electronics (MAE) Innovators Awards. Somewear Labs’ Horizon, its low-SWaP, multi-network (LOS/BLOS) radio for uncrewed platforms, is a Platinum honoree, the Program’s highest honor.
The 2026 MAE Innovators Awards celebrates outstanding innovation in defense and aerospace for the engineering industry. Every year the Awards showcase and reward companies, designers, and innovators who have contributed to the advancement of technology through their creative and impactful designs. The Platinum Award recognizes a superb innovation, characterized by a groundbreaking approach to meeting a need, and/or a new level of performance, efficiency, ease-of-use or other beneficial quality.
Somewear launched Horizon earlier this year to unlock long-range, attritable drone communications. It was built to solve one of the hardest operational problems in modern autonomy: keeping unmanned systems controllable and mission-relevant when line-of-sight (LOS) breaks. It equips operators and OEMs with an affordable, integrated LOS and BLOS solution purpose-built to enhance survivability in the modern fight.
James Kubik, co-founder and CEO of Somewear, said, “We are thrilled that Horizon has been recognized by MAE, further testament that we’ve built a networking architecture that gives OEMs a faster path to integrate resilient connectivity, while providing operators the flexibility to maintain command and control as missions, platforms, and communications conditions change.”
Somewear was recently selected to advance resilient networking capabilities in support of the Pentagon’s uncrewed systems priorities. For this contract award, Horizon moved from concept to downrange deployment in months as Somewear worked alongside UxS manufacturers to integrate, test, and refine the technology against real-world mission needs.
2026 MAE Innovators Award winners are chosen by the qualified judging panel chosen by the editorial staff at Military + Aerospace Electronics. Platinum, Gold, and Silver honorees are revealed every fall.
